Before I go into detail, Rolina is from another world. Born on Other World, raised on the continent, Broken she inherited the ship (as you'll soon read) and sailed through a portal, leading to Earth. The portal pushed her forward in time, landing her in the mid -to- late 1800's, (1876 to be precise).
PAST: Mariyanna Galiec lived in Toetactica as the daughter of a wealthy lord. Her mother forced her to do things, such as attend Lord Galed's balls and banquettes, "be shown for sale" and to act with the greatest of manners, all to bring respect, honor and a good reputation to the family name. She hated the way her life was being lived, because she had no freedom. She had to listen to her father because he was the "man-of-the-house" and she had to act like her witty, stuck-up mother, who the Royals thought her as a classic example of women finery.
On a day, which is probably long forgotten by now, she decided to pack up her things and run away, but as she was doing this, her mother came bursting into the room, delivering some horrid news.
Mariyanna's father had died that morning by the blade of Lord Galed, who fought the man in a duel of family honor. Since her father had lost, Mariyanna was to become Lord Galed's fiance and her now widowed mother was to live with them. Lord Galed retrieved them and held the wedding a week from then.
On Mariyanna's wedding day, she thought of a plan. She was to run away once she was alone in the wedding chamber, waiting for her husband. When the time came, she redressed herself and jumped out the window, landing on a tree branch. She heard the door open and the angry voice of Lord Galed, but she knew it was too late to turn back. She jumped out of the tree and ran to the docks.
There a man by the name of Rye spotted her running towards him. He stopped her and asked where she was going, and what her name was. Instead of giving Rye her true name, she told him it was Rolina, and she responded to his other question by saying that she did not care to where she went, so long as she did not have to be here.
With that said and done, Rye welcomed her aboard the "Maiden's Voyage", telling her that she would be a crew mate on the ship, and he would teach her everything...
PRESENT: Rolina came to becoming the captain of the "Maiden's Voyage" when she revealed the true horror of the former Captain Pryce. His cruel and unfairness to his crew was shameful, and his uncontrollable lust for her was disgusting and repulsive.
Each night he summoned Rolina to him where he raped her against her wishes, and beat her if she fought it, and each morning she was scarred with this truth, unable to do anything because of the fear he had on her... the fear of loosing the one home where she felt comfortable.
On a night so clear, beautiful and mysterious, Rolina ran out of her chambers to Rye's, so she may hide on his bed, preventing the actions which would happen later that night. When Rye walked into his room, he saw her frail body upon his bed and headed straight to her, taking her form and comforting her as an older brother would for a younger sister. He asked her what she feared, and why she was here and not in her own bed. At this, she broke down, and wept in his arms, telling him EVERYTHING the captain did to her when everyone was sleeping.
Full of hot anger, Rye hugged Rolina and promised her nothing would ever happen, that she was safe in here. She fell asleep to this, tired from crying and weary of her fate to come. He placed her on a pillow and covered her with a blanket, then left the room when he was sure she was sleeping.
Towards the middle of the night, the time where she would have been sent for, she found Rye had not come back yet. Worried and awake, she went to search for him. That's when she heard the faint voices of two men, and the clashing sounds of steel on steel. Shocked, and aware of what might be happening she followed the noises to the captain's cabin, where a flood of bright, off white light could be seen -- She opened the door and witnessed a site she would never forget in her life... Rye and Captain Pryce were dueling to the death.
She stood there, unable to do anything, too horrified, and scared. But that soon changed when she saw that the captain's blade was pressed against Rye's throat, Rye being backed up into a corner... his own blade on the floor. With out thinking, Rolina picked up the closet object, which was a glowing dagger and thrust it at the captain's back, where he collapsed over, dying quickly.
She ran to Rye once Pryce was dead, and buried her head in his shoulder. He soothed her and calmed her down, then shocked her by a few simple words...
"Since you killed Captain Pryce, you are the new captain of the *Maiden's Voyage* "
